Rhetoric and propaganda are used many ways persuade people during times of war. You can see how the Nazi Party used it. There were many ways propaganda to use to blame the Jews, to show united Germany, Give credibility to Hitler. Rhetoric is used to persuade using pathos, logos, and ethos. Propaganda is bias and making a cause or a goal seem good.
First of all, the Nazis used propaganda to blame the Jews as a scapegoat for their problems. The Nazis used movies to help persuade people in Germany to believe that Jews were the main problem. Most movies in Nazi Germany were to influence the hate on Jewish people and make them look bad in a very bias way. All media was ruled by Adolf Hitler. For example, “The Jew Suss tells the story of a Jewish man raping a Germany Maiden. The image of the Jew as despicable, inferior, and menacing was repeated over and over again(Source Anthony Pratkans Propaganda in the Third Reich 1992)” This is a good example of propaganda used by the Nazis in a bad way because it shows that in the film as described that Jewish people are practically animals. The movie is also seen to show that you need to keep your daughter, mother, or wife away from Jewish people because they will rape them. The movie is very violent and provokes people to fear and exterminate Jews from earth. The German maid is described as innocent and caring nice. And the Jewish man is mean, barbaric and takes advantage of people. This kind of propaganda appeals to people in the emotional way and trying convince that Jewish people are a major problem in society.
Second of all, Propaganda was used to Unite Nazi Germany before World War 2 and during World War 2. Adolf Hitler did everything in his power to make all media say and show things that are false. Lots of movies In the 1930s in Nazi Germany were bias and trying to unite all the Germany to have one main goal as a nation. A lot of films in Germany were expressed very powerful so that all Germans would achieve the same goals as Adolf Hitler. For example, “1934 film by Leni Riefenstahl entitled the triumph of Will. The film opens with scenes of handsome young men in preparation to become soldiers. Hitler oversees their training. By the film’s end, these young men have been turned into a powerful Nazi War machine. The message: By working together, we can be strong again. (Source Anthony Pratkans, Propaganda in theThird Reich 1992).” This is a good example of Nazis using propaganda to unite Germany because in the movie it shows that the young men are being trained to and they become War machines to protect Germany as a nation. It also shows that if people become stronger and more powerful if they get involved in the Nazi party. The main message at the end says “by working together, we can be strong again.” So the main message of the movie is that Germany as a nation needs to unite and become one to fight. This kind of propaganda was used to have a emotional and credible feel for Germany.
Last of all, all campaign posters in the Nazi Party gave a ton of credibility to Adolf Hitler himself. To show he was a reliable good person that everyone should trust. A lot of posters in before and during World War 2 made Hitler look like the last hope of Germany. For example, “Joseph Goebbels’s rights in one of his posters, “Hitler, our last hope, Hitler as a kind of father whose nation had called him to serve in its greatest need. (Source Anthony Pratkans, Propaganda in theThird Reich 1992).” This is a good piece of evidence because it shows that the Nazis used propaganda to give a lot of credibility to Adolf Hitler. As seen in the evidence people like Joseph Goebbels’s says “Hitler, our last hope,” saying that without him Germany would be nothing and we as a nation need to support Adolf Hitler’s ideals. Another good example is when a lot of journalists would make Hitler seem nice and kind by doing false things in the community that made it seem real so people in Germany would think he’s a great guy. For example, Joseph Goebbels’s’ says in one of his magazines, “The simplest people approach him with confidence because they feel he is their friend and protector.”(Source Anthony Pratkans, Propaganda in theThird Reich 1992).”This is a good example of Nazis using propaganda to make Hitler credible because it shows that Hitler was nice to people in public. It also states that he is supposedly friendly too everyone in community. It is also saying that he is the protector of the people of Germany. He makes people feel safe and secure around them and that he is a very confident man in the inside and out. So this kind of propaganda is pathos and ethos because it is trying to appeal emotional and credible towards the people of Germany.
